Spreading the word about CF
For the third year now Mt Waverley Secondary College students have raised funds and awareness throughout their school for cystic fibrosis.
Four students from the year 10 leadership team at MWSC attended CFV’s Leadership Development Camp held in Bendigo.
The idea of the Leadership Development Camp is to encourage young leaders and to raise awareness of CF. Essentially CFV are aiming to increase the number of ambassadors for our organisation.
At the camp, sessions are held with community leaders, role models and ambassadors from different sectors. In addition to motivational speakers, activities such as “What is a leader?” and “Developing your leadership potential” are included.
CFV has seen those students involved become ambassadors for our cause by promoting and supporting our charity within their own school communities.
Following the 2016 camp, representatives from CFV spoke at four year level assemblies at MWSC organised by their Head of Student Leadership, Ms Dureau. The year 10 leadership students also organised a cake stall where they sold homemade cupcakes which were beautifully decorated with hand-made fondant roses. The cake stall and casual clothes day raised $2,000. The relationship created between CFV and Mt Waverley Secondary College is such a great example of how school communities can support not-for-profit organisations and how CFV can give back in return. We look forward to seeing what MWSC can create for 2017.
